Exactly why I call him lazy instead of retarded. How hard would it have been to just rework the skill into something else - such as a self-target only heal that gives health regeneration for each recharging smiting prayers skill...which would keep it useful while removing the lameway of 5 monks healing each other while everything else esplodes ?

Do you understand that that would also have completely destroyed Smiter's Boon on a par with what Izzy did?
I mean, if you implemented your suggesion Smiter's Boon wouldn't even exist in its old form any more.

No, it would have destroyed it from high level play. It would still be fun to use every now and then in RA ( hence the reason I stick this it in here ). The way it was destroyed removed it from both competitive and casual play. It was lazy - trying to defend that by asserting it couldn't be done the other way is a false dichotomy.
Your also ignoring the real meat of what I was saying - the point is that there are hundreds of ways the skill could have been just simply given a complete rework like what was done with the last major update to all those useless elites. If they want to remove a skill, they should change it to a different skill, not remove it.

Christ, this is working its way into every thread I've seen recently.
For the billionth time - Izzy and Co simply wanted the skill *gone* from competitive play in time for the tournament. Izzy and Co are also working on Guild Wars 2 full time, which is, imo, a valid reason for putting a skill like this on the back burner. It needs a complete rewrite, which takes time to implement and test.

If only he took the same approach to Ritualists and Assassins.

I'd actually go as far to say he's retarded, so we are at the mercy of someone who thinks SB is OP, which I don't think it is, until you have 3+ copies of the smite template floating around, which might I add has always been a problem reguarding any decent template. Let's not even get into the whole Wounding strike buff to a ridiculous level, it still is, guess he thought it was healthy for the game lmfao. He's known smiter's have been a problem since at least last MAT, yet took the easy road and just killed it for shits and giggles.

[build=OAOjAykooSnTRbfTZOlTYOOTCAA]
Communing 12+1+3
Channeling 11+1
Spawning Power 9+1
Ok, this one is really good! All u do is summon all your spirits before anyone gets close, preferably spread out in case someone has AoE spells. If one of those pesky rangers tries to interrupt you just run behind your wall of spirits and start summoning moar, and win! It's that easy.

Nah, that build requires way too much pvp experience to know how that build works ..

Re-inventing skills from scratch is definately not easier than balancing existing ones. It needed to be out of play, immediately. He may or may not choose to take the time to rework it later (it's smiting, so let's face it - probably not.)
Major changes to a skill require working out all possible combinations and synergies. If Izzy took your approach of just making sweeping changes on a whim the game would be a whole lot more broken than it is right now.

There are plenty of powerful builds (that actually work) with the same skill requirement as touch ranger.

my 2nd favorite profession is dervish, and i made a custom wounding strike build for RA, pretty much as devastating as the D/E kind but much more resilient to melee counters.
HOLY PHALLUS
[build prof=D/Mo scythe=12+1+3 wind=12+1 protection=3][harrier's haste][wounding strike][lyssa's assault][victorious sweep][zealous sweep][holy veil][mending touch][resurrection signet][/build]
gameplay:
- keep holy veil up.
- spam wounding strike. but if the target already has deepwound, hit it with something else.
- spam the other attack skills on recharge. but if your energy drops less than or equal to 10, then your next attack should most likely be lyssa's assault.
- harrier's haste to chase, plus some bonus damage.
- self-cleanup as necessary
- sundercrits can hit for a whopping 139
